Our Japanese Blogger and Chef Mayu lives in Paris. She shares with us one of her favourite tea salon in the Place des Vosges: Carette. Let's learn more about this very chic French café...

The famous tea salon (salon de thé) “Carette” was built in 1927 and is facing the plaza del Trocadero, which is a high-end, bourgeoisie district in Paris (the 16th arrondissement). But, actually, I prefer “Carette - Place des Vosges, their second boutique located in Place des Vosges. The passage / an arcade around the plaza is used as terrace. If you can sit in the terrace, you can enjoy the view of the beautiful “Place des Vosges”. It is very comfortable & relaxing, perfect for a weekend brunch on a nice day!

It is a smaller than the Trocadéro, and more suitable for the local people. (You can hear less of loud tourists taking photos!) Anyway, the showcase displays full of sweets, pâtisseries and cakes! Here is my favourite: the classic macarons.  Which one are the best?  The macarons made of salted butter and caramel.  Try it! There is a smooth layer of cream inside with a hint of salted butter. Yummy!!!

The tea salon is open 7/7, from 7:30am till midnight…  I love to come here for breakfast to feel ZEN, or for a weekend brunch with fancy BOBO friends (oops!). Then I can pretend to be a high-class lady :) . One thing that I cannot agree with their eating manners is “how to eat the club-sandwiches?” Why, and why do the French cut the club sandwiches like a steak using a knife and a fork?  I love to bite into my sandwiches! This makes it taste better for sure (and for the majority of the social classes aswell…)

Here is the menu: a weekend with scrambled eggs (“oeufs brouillés” in French)! French scrambled eggs are made by bain-marie (water-bath). Without direct heat, the eggs are very soft, creamy and melt in your mouth…

You should have their excellent croissants and chocolate croissants (pain-au-chocolat), with a fresh squeezed juice. After this you are ready to start “une journée merveilleuse” (a wonderful day)!
